morning - ran a semi-tune-up at the Square Pond with Daisy & Gunny, used a "faux shrub/Gillie" barrier
note: very easy for Daisy.....it was more for me wanting to see the effects
note: Gunny seemed very confused on the less difficult first line, then he
improved as we went along. I did not move back nearly as far away from
the shore as Daisy did, but the lesson went smoother as Gunny began
to "get it".

rapid rise in "temps" today (into the 80's).......after today's training session with Pounce, came back to the pond with a "weed whacker" to "manicure" the shoreline for specific training sessions. Made several "slots" and "barriers" plus shaped the south-east corner to create a clear picture of "not cheating" a corner....there will be more trimming in this "corner" note: two tanks of gas later, the heat said "enough"

In the spring of 2009, a young retriever was beginning to deal with "cheaty" water entries.
One idea at that time (Dobbs) was to use chairs to create slots. Instead of chairs, the idea to create a more realistic appearance to shorelines was to make "fake terrain" (soon to be called faux shrubs). Many years later, this same "idea" was modified by trimming weedy shoreline cover to create the same effect. The following is a description of the transition. It all began with the making of "faux shrubs" for land work in "barren, flat" terrain.

evening trained at the Macktown DTA - just freshly mowed and perfect for some "new stuff", setup was a 3 Ghilly "faux shrub" lining drill.......angled across mowed pattern and with an angling wind...(variation of Cassity's Swish drill with three stations). Each dog ran 9 blinds with three from each station...first from the left side heel, switched to the right side & then back to the left. Three blind stations were setup in a row about 30 yds apart. The running lines were from an initial distance of 50 yards out to 100 yards. The angled blinds are longer.....each running station was on a line angling away from the 3 Gillie's.......mostly......this was a lining drill to work on Gunny's "look lock".
note: Daisy was excellent
note: Gunny again shows improvement (better lock)
note: Kooly was nonchalant about the whole process (per normal)
"movable diversion factors"
April 4, 2018 Today a revisit to "Ghillie Shrubs" and faux terrain was made. Flat, empty fields need to be "upgraded". note: They make a great, quick fix for sudden, spring rabbit holes.
note: two rabbit holes and no terrain at the Four Lakes DTA was the motivation.
